The story…

On a cold evening in September 2009, a young man pondering over a cup of tea had a vision of providing a service to aid Muslims in the UK in finding that special someone with just the use of a pen, registration form and telephone. Soon after he discovered that the task was more exhausting than he had first thought and that matchmaking was not an easy task after all.

Shortly after this first round KO, he decided to embark on the innovative and exciting prospect of using a more modern and progressive medium, providing his service at a click of a button. Yes my dear Muslim brothers and sisters, the internet, whether we love it or hate it, has its uses.

Although the original idea came about whilst offering a member of my own family some key marketing strategies to enhance there matrimonial business, I actually sold the idea to myself. To be honest, I have often thought about marriage and how difficult the process was when looking for my partner.

Muslims today are more independent than ever and are actively looking for marriage prospects online. The internet is full of hundreds of matrimonial websites but unfortunately a majority of these lack pedigree, go against the Quran, Sunnah and Shariah. Essentially, they encourage online dating!

My idea was clear, keep it halal! Although the service is somewhat locked down in key areas and barriers have been put in place, it encourages only those Muslims who are serious about marriage to register. I wanted to create a service where Muslims could feel comfortable and not worry about Joe Nobody being obtrusive and getting cheap thrills by viewing endless profiles and hunting down his/her next number to add to his/her hit list.

The thought process behind the entire service was to involve parents or the Wali (guardian) during the process. You see, making things halal helps put everybody at ease. My Nikah encourages the family to get involved removing the negative stigma attached to the online matrimonial service.

Alhumdulillah, after talking with sheikhs, imams, Muslim brothers and sisters, researchers and developers and receiving their A* stamp of approval, I was pretty confident that My Nikah could have all the ingredients to be a hit amongst Muslims looking for a successful marriage following the principles of Islam.
